Report – English rival plot permanent swoop for West Ham talent

West Brom are eager to try and secure the services of West Ham winger Grady Diangana on a permanent deal, according to The Sun on Sunday (Print Edition, p.59, March 8th 2019).

The 21-year-old has proved to be a hit at The Hawthorns since joining on a temporary basis from the Hammers at the beginning of the season.

So far this term he has hit five goals and six assists for the Baggies, helping them to an automatic promotion spot with nine games left in the Championship season.

And it is understood that should Albion secure a return to the top flight, they will make it their mission to finalise a permanent deal for the wide man.

Speculation had been rife about the possibility of the Irons recalling their player early during the January, but the passing of the agreed deadline on that option in Diangana’s contract ensured that he would remain in the midlands for the rest of the campaign.

Should West Ham sell Diangana to West Brom?

Absolutely not.

Ultimately, this season is going to end in one of four ways.

Either West Brom will get promoted and West Ham avoid the drop, in which case both would be in the Premier League and it would be foolish to sell him to a rival, or the Baggies miss out on promotion, the Hammers go down, and the same logic applies.

Alternatively, if the Irons stay up and West Brom fail to get promoted, the fact that Albion are willing to take a gamble on him in the top flight surely shows that the Hammers should be willing to afford him that chance too.

Finally, if the Baggies go up and we go down, the fact Diangana has done such a fine job in the second tier this season shows that he is a player the Irons must hang onto if they want to bounce back at the first time of asking.

In fact, there is literally no scenario where it makes sense to sell Diangana to West Brom.

Let’s just hope that the board see it that way too.
