Report: Arthur Masuaku could face more surgery as West Ham wait for feedback

West Ham United defender Arthur Masuaku could face more surgery this season despite already going under the knife this month.

Claret and Hugh have reported that the Irons’ defender faces a two-week wait before getting more feedback on his knee problem.

Masuaku underwent surgery at the start of December, with initial fears being that he could be out for as long as four months at the London Stadium.

The club source has reported on their website that doctors are waiting to see how Masuaku’s knee has recovered.

It was a serious procedure, with his knee being fully “washed out” in what came as a surprise after he had cemented his spot in the Hammers defence.

Masuaku could return in the space of a month should he return positive feedback in a fortnight’s time, although he won’t want to rush.

David Moyes has made the African full-back a main part of his five-at-the-back formation, something which has been forced into a change in recent weeks.

Masuaku has thrived in having less defensive responsibility at left-wing, as we all know he is much better driving forward.

The 27-year-old has made 10 appearances in the Premier League this season, which is almost more than he managed in the entirety of last season for the Irons.

Moyes has handed him a chance, and he has taken it with both hands.

Defensively, he has improved from last season, winning 61.4% of his defensive duels according to WyScout, as well as only making four fewer progressive runs compared to the 19/20 campaign.

Masuaku is certainly one player who has improved massively, and we’re crossing everything that he is able to return sooner rather than later and that his next check-up brings nothing but positive news.
