Reliable source: West Ham starlet could be offered new deal ‘soon’
West Ham announced on Saturday that young midfielder Connor Coventry has been handed a new deal with the club.
The teenager put pen to paper on a fresh contract that will keep him in east London until at least 2023, and it’s fair to say that news was met with delight by many fans, as per West Ham Zone itself.
But if supporters are keen on exciting young talent committing their futures to the Irons, they might not have too long to wait for another piece of good news.
According to reliable club source ExWHUemployee, Republic of Ireland youth international Josh Cullen could be next in line for an extension.
Writing on his personal account, the in-the-know specialist said: “Cullen could be getting a new deal soon”.
The West Ham Zone View of that potential move is that would be a fantastic piece of business.
Cullen is laid up at the moment with a torn ligament, but he has been mightily impressive ever since he went to Charlton Athletic, and there’s a reason why the Addicks were so keen to tie him down to another stay at The Valley this season.
Intelligent in possession and brilliantly mobile, Cullen is exactly the sort of midfield gem that could prosper into a real game changer in the Premier League.
His average of 1.4 key passes per game this season illustrate a player who can carve a defence at will, and his Whoscored rating of 7.03 per game is seriously impressive too.
At 23, he is at a point in his career where he needs to be playing regularly, and that could be an issue moving forward with West Ham, but if he keeps on putting out the kind of stellar displays he has been this term, and if the Hammers do see fit to take a gamble on him, it could work out brilliantly for both club and player.
