Reliable source: 6’4″ player will not sign new deal with West Ham
Few West Ham signings will ever be remembered less fondly than Roberto.
The Spanish stopper was drafted in to act as cover for Lukasz Fabianski over the summer, but an untimely injury to the big Pole saw him thrust into the limelight unexpectedly earlier this season.
What followed was a tailspin for both the player and the team which saw him become a universally reviled symbol of the Hammers’ struggles under the recently-ousted Manuel Pellegrini.
Bearing all of that in mind, it’s perhaps no surprise to hear the latest update on the stopper from reliable club source, ExWHUemployee.
When asked on Twitter whether or not there was any chance of Roberto signing a new deal with the club at any point in the future, Ex responded with a gif of Will Ferrell from the movie Elf captioned: “Nooooooooo!!!”.
Tongue-in-cheek or not, this can only be deemed a good thing by supporters.
Rarely has a goalkeeper been so uniformly disastrous in the Premier League, or enraged a fanbase so quickly.
In his eight games for the Irons the 6’4″ flop conceded 17 goals, made two errors leading directly to goals, and scored an own goal, as per the Premier League.
He is at a point where his profile could hardly be any lower, and with the club reportedly in the market for a replacement, as per Sky Sports, it is surely a sign that he is destined for the scrap heap.
Finding somebody to take him on with his reputations in such tatters would be no easy task, but the sooner the Hammers can offload Roberto, the better for player and club alike.
Here’s just hoping that his spell between the sticks doesn’t come back to bite the Hammers too much when the beans are counted at the end of the season.
