Reliable source: 6’1″ stalwart wants West Ham move

They say you should never go back, but in football – and at West Ham United – we have seen time and time again that that advice isn’t often followed.

Numerous players, managers and coaches have left clubs only to return a few years later. Sometimes comfortable environs can be all a struggling footballer needs.

So it should come as no surprise that a former West Ham stalwart is said to be interested in returning to the London Stadium.

That’s the latest from reliable Hammers source ExWHUemployee, anyway. The man in question, of course, is current Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

“Randolph is very keen to move to us and is said to be pushing for that to happen,” Ex wrote on his personal Twitter account on Saturday.

“Middlesbrough want to recoup as close as to what they paid us for him but we don’t believe he is worth as much now.

“As mentioned before if this isn’t concluded soon we will switch attention.”

The Republic of Ireland international left the Irons to join his current club in 2017, and has gone on to establish himself as arguably the second tier’s finest shot-stopper.

Indeed, he was named as the ‘keeper in the Championship Team of the Year last season, but Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate’s youth movement has seen youngster Aynsley Pears replace the 6’1″ star as number one for the last nine games of this season.

In other West Ham news, it has emerged that one of the Hammers’ most disappointing players this season won’t be offered a new contract.
