Rashford transfer: Bid acceptance claim made as West Ham eye Man United ace
West Ham United accept that any deal for Marcus Rashford is “extremely unlikely” due to the Manchester United forward’s huge wages, according to Sky Sports News.
Dharmesh Sheth and Mark McAdam shared the update on West Ham’s interest in Rashford – who has 87 goals in 287 Premier League appearances – via the broadcaster’s live online blog [9 January, 2:39pm].
The England international is reported to be on wages of £87,500 a week [Graeme Bailey, 9 January], which will make any move for the Irons tough to pull off.
“West Ham United are the latest club to show an interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford,” the Sky Sports update read.
“There is an acceptance it would be an extremely difficult deal to do given Rashford’s wages.
“And the growing feeling is Rashford is likely to move to a European club if United sanction a move. However, West Ham have asked to be kept updated with any developments.”
Marcus Rashford’s record for Manchester United
There is no doubt that Rashford has gone off the boil over the past 18 months or so in a Man United shirt.
After netting 17 goals in 35 Premier League outings in 2022-23, he scored just seven times in 33 outings last season and has four in 15 this term.
It goes without saying that return is not worth West Ham breaking their wage salary for, but if some sort of agreement can be reached then it may make sense.
It is easy to scoff at the thought of the Hammers bringing in Rashford, but he will need no time to adapt and we all remember what happened with Jesse Lingard.
At the same time, it is unlikely Rashford will take too much of a cut to his wages and there is simply no point in wasting time if a new attacker is to be brought in.

Instead, Tim Steidten – assuming he is not sacked in the coming days – needs to focus on a realistic January target and get the deal done.
West Ham have a new manager in the dugout and a new marquee signing this month would really help to kickstart this latest new era.
In other West Ham news, Paul Merson has made a “strange” claim following the appointment of Graham Potter.
