Question marks emerge over David Moyes future at West Ham United already
David Moyes may be considering the stability of his position as West Ham manager after scout Mick Doherty and head of recruitment Rob Newman look set to depart, according to Claret & Hugh.
The news source reported on 18 October that Moyes’ position may be becoming more and more fragile, with his contract set to expire at the end of the year and a new one yet to be offered to the Scot.
Doherty was described by The Sun journalist Alan Nixon [Patreon, 15 October] as a long-term ally of Moyes’, while Newman has played a role as the manager’s number two in the scouting department before the arrival of Tim Steidten.

Plenty of change behind the scenes
Steidten, the club’s new technical director who arrived ahead of the summer transfer window, has seen his involvement and influence grow in his short time at the London Stadium, which may have directly resulted in key scouting staff being eased out.
There were claims of a bust-up between Moyes and his technical director in the summer [The Guardian, 29 July], with disagreements on transfer decisions the cause, although those seemed to settle towards the end of the window as West Ham got plenty of business done.
Having seen key members of his trusted backroom staff pushed out of the door, Moyes could now have his own questions about his role at the club, and if he is offered a new deal, he could decide to follow suit.

The manager has earned a new contract after his successful European exploits last season, followed up by an impressive start this time around. The lack of initiative from the club on this front suggests there are doubts over Moyes’ long-term future at the London Stadium.
