Pundit urges David Moyes change at West Ham United as David Sullivan makes London Stadium decision

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie urges David Moyes to change his West Ham United approach at London Stadium but admits he is delighted at news regarding a potential new contract.

Despite much speculation around his position over the past few months, 6foot2 editor Sean Whetstone tweeted on 29 December that the Hammers boss is “100 per cent” staying on at the club beyond this summer following the 2-0 victory over Arsenal on 28 December and will sit down for talks with David Sullivan to thrash out a new deal.

The Sun reporter Jack Rosser shared on 29 December that Moyes is set to sign a new two-and-a-half-year contract with West Ham ending all the speculation surrounding his future at the London Stadium.

McAvennie admits he is annoyed at Moyes’ style at times with the 1-1 FA Cup third-round draw against Bristol City a perfect example.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I’m delighted with the news because I really do think he deserves it but I’m always gonna have a go at him because I’m a purist, I like to see good football.

“Sometimes when I look at West Ham, I’m annoyed, they can turn it up and I’m like ‘That’s the way it should be played’ but then I’m next day I’m going, ‘Why doesn’t that happen all the time?’.

“Is it me or is David stopping them from playing? I really don’t know but he’s got to change his approach.

“But listen, you can’t help but praise what the guy has done, he’s challenging in Europe every year, won a European trophy last season and they’ve improved domestically in the Premier League.

“Still think he should picked a full-strength team against Liverpool in the EFL Cup, he should have gone for it, that’s my regret.

“A lot of fans that I know don’t forgive him for that because he should have gone for it and they may have gotten a result there and moved a step closer to another trophy.

“But against Bristol City? Come on, not good enough!”
