Pundit reacts as Fabrizio Romano shares fresh transfer update at West Ham United amid behind-scenes David Sullivan news
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes David Moyes will find it hard to find the right striker for West Ham United but suggests he’s got to “unearth one” given the demand for them right now.
Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shared in his Daily Briefing column [11 December] that West Ham chiefs are already hard at work looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the January transfer window.
Romano added that he expects the Hammers to be busy in the January transfer window and that chairman David Sullivan and Tim Steidten are working behind the scenes to identify targets.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Who do you get? I mean, everyone in the world wants a striker.
“David has got to find one of better yet unearth one, you’ve gotta find somebody.
“And I’m not having it that there is none about, I mean I came down from Scotland to West Ham United, and nobody had heard of me.
“Nobody knew me so if you get a striker from somewhere else and nobody knows them but all of a sudden, in their first home game, they get two goals.
“That’s what you need, you need someone that’s gonna come in and have the sort of confidence I had to come in and do it.

“Whoever comes to West Ham as a striker, you’re not gonna tell me they haven’t been dreaming about the Premier League since they were a boy, so when they come over and get the chance, you’ve got to go and grab it.”
“All the big teams will be looking for a striker, but David has got to be clever and get one that is going to be a superstar or going to be one of the top strikers and get them before people notice them if you like.”
“I believe Moyes has some good contacts and Sullivan will be on a first-name basis with a lot of them so he can track a player.”
