Premier League history on cards in West Ham United clash v Sheffield United

Premier League history is on the cards when West Ham United take on Sheffield United, according to the official Premier League website.

The Hammers host the newly promoted Blades at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday (30 September).

The home side currently sit seventh in the table on 10 points, with their upcoming opponents sitting bottom on one point.

“After suffering an 8-0 defeat to Newcastle United last weekend, bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United have the chance to produce a Premier League first against West Ham on Saturday,” according to the official Premier League website.

“No team have ever won an away match after suffering a defeat by eight goals or more, and only on two occasions has a side drawn or won in their next fixture.”

Tough test

The trip to East London is certain to be a very tough test for Sheffield United, who have found it difficult in the Premier League following last season’s promotion from the Championship.

But it could go one of two ways for the Blades at the London Stadium, with the club keen to bounce back from that Newcastle hammering.

Paul Heckingbottom will be desperate that it is a case of his players being eager to right that wrong and be well up for the task against West Ham. They could, therefore, arrive with a determined approach and attack their opponents from the very first whistle.

But the other side of the coin is having a complete lack of confidence going into the game, which could be picked up by the hosts, who could use it to their advantage and storm home to all three points. The Blades are yet to win this season, drawing one and losing five of their six league matches so far.

In other West Ham news, a Premier League journalist has slammed Moyes and has mooted a “worrying pattern” for the club.
