Philip Beard explains PAI Capital’s West Ham plans ahead of expected second bid

Philip Beard has delivered an update on PAI Capital’s plans to take over West Ham in an in-depth discussion on talkSPORT.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show, [17/08/21] the ex-QPR chief executive, who is fronting the British consortium’s bid, confirmed a second bid is being prepared after the initial £400million offer was rejected by David Sullivan.

“It’s only right for West Ham fans to know there has been a bid, the challenge seems to be that Sullivan has a much higher value,” Beard said.

“At the end of the day, whatever you spend on a business, the more you spend the less you can invest into the team and the squad and so there’s a realistic value we think that should be acceptable, pretty much we thought was accepted and now the goalposts have been moved, literally.”

He added: “We are preparing a second bid.”

Beard also sent a message to the fans. “One of the things that is important to me is the fans are everything to a football club,” he continued.

“I want to repeat that they will be front and centre of that stadium. We will invest on the pitch but also off it.

“It’s important. I know we can make the experience of watching a football match at the Olympic Stadium a better experience.

“Commercial and hospitality are going to help fund on the pitch activities.

“My key message is we are serious about this.”

Music to our ears

Of course, Beard is going to be accused of just paying lip service and telling the fans what they want to hear.

That’s exactly what ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan was insinuating live on-air, throwing countless questions to him to find out whether his intentions were pure.

Beard did pretty well in the main to appease Jordan as he launched an impassioned defence of PAI Capital and their designs for the Irons.

He addressed the big issue of the London Stadium, promising to make matchdays experiences more enjoyable.

Beard also announced plans to invest in on-field matters.

Those are two of the most important things that GSB have got wrong in recent years, and we’re desperate to see Beard’s promises become a reality.
