Philippe Coutinho will cost West Ham ‘a lot of money’ – Dean Jones

West Ham have been sent a warning by transfer insider Dean Jones over how much Philippe Coutinho could cost.

The Brazilian international is currently on loan from Barcelona with Premier League side Aston Villa.

Approaching 29, Jones believes the Hammers will be cautious if they were to make an approach for the former Liverpool man.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t know where I see Coutinho right now.

“I think West Ham will be mindful of what they’re signing in Coutinho if they were to go down that path because it would take a lot of money.”

Too much

This isn’t a move the Hammers should go for.

He has done brilliantly for Aston Villa and clearly enjoys playing in England and the Premier League based on his performances, but the club should look elsewhere.

The club are way past signing older, experienced players in the hopes they can do a job for the team in the last few years of their long and mostly successful careers.

It has worked at Villa Park, but they are in the position West Ham were in some years back and the signings must reflect the ambition of the team.

David Moyes’ side are pushing for the Champions League and are enjoying the best football they have played in so many years.

There is an argument that Coutinho could take the Irons to up a level or two in the short term but the money he would cost surely wouldn’t be worth it with several other clubs likely to boost his price.

The Hammers are much better off investing in some cheaper, long-term alternatives.
