Paul Robinson claims 28y/o would be ‘perfect’ January signing for West Ham
West Ham should sign Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to pundit Paul Robinson.
The full-back has been sidelined with a ligament injury for the entirety of this season, but is expected to return to fitness at some point in the next few weeks, as per Transfermarkt.
A report from the Guardian suggested that new Hammers boss David Moyes could look for a new right-back during the current transfer window, with Clyne believed to be an option.
And Robinson has suggested that the 28-year-old could be and ideal option for the Irons.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “It could be perfect, it could work for both sides, just because he’s been out for so long.
“He’s clearly not going to get in the Liverpool team, he’ll be a bit-part player at most, and if he does want to play this year then it could be a move that works for both sides.
“I could see that happening.”
Would Clyne be a good signing for the Hammers?
A couple of years ago, it seemed as if Nathaniel Clyne had the world at his feet.
A regular started for Liverpool and England, there was a strong argument to be made for him being one of the finest full-backs in the Premier League.
Then injury struck and Trent Alexander-Arnold broke through the ranks at Anfield, and ever since then, it has felt as if the 28-year-old has been on something of a downwards spiral.
A loan spell to Bournemouth last year was a relative success though, and his 14 appearance during the second half of last season showed that he is still capable of playing regularly and cutting it in the top flight.
If the Hammers could bring in that version of Clyne, able to keep himself fit and capable of putting in a decent level of performance every week, then signing him is an absolute no-brainer.
