Paul Merson predicts result of West Ham United clash v Aston Villa

Paul Merson has made his prediction for the Premier League clash between West Ham and Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers currently sit in 7th place in the table after an excellent start to the season, while Villa sit in 5th place ahead of one of the most anticipated games of the weekend.

And while speaking to Sportskeeda (20 October) Merson said both teams were “unpredictable”, but backed the home team to claim the three points with the home advantage.

“This is a good game between two teams that can be unpredictable but are having very good seasons,” he said.

“It could go either way. Villa are going to have a go at West Ham and David Moyes would love that because West Ham are excellent on the counter.

“West Ham are difficult to beat, and the likes of Bowen and Antonio can be dangerous. Aston Villa are playing at home, however, and I’m going to back them to win this game. Aston Villa 2-1 West Ham United.”

Test

The way the season has gone so far has seen West Ham faced with plenty of tough fixtures but come out on top more often than not.

The games against Manchester City and Liverpool were difficult and went against us, but the draw with Newcastle showed our quality and wins over Chelsea and Brighton have shown we can compete against anyone.

Straight after the international break is always hard because the team have been apart and all been dealing with different international travelling issues, meaning not everyone will be in sync.

But David Moyes will still have an idea of the best team to field to get all three points and it wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve shocked the rest of the league by picking up points that people said we’re not supposed to.

We can beat anyone on our day and being away from home may actually benefit us too, so this is a game where we definitely shouldn’t be ruled out.
