Paul Konchesky calls on West Ham fans to end protests

With the horrendous performance of the West Ham United squad this season, protest against the club’s board have ramped up recently.

The failure of former manager Manuel Pellegrini, the subsequent uninspiring appointment of David Moyes, and the continued misery of the London Stadium has created fierce opposition to David Gold and David Sullivan.

To be fair, the supporters were promised a different level of club once the move to the Olympic ground was achieved, something which simply hasn’t happened.

For many, the decision to move away from Upton Park to the lifeless bowl that is the London Stadium is the very worst in the club’s history.

Former Hammers left back Paul Konchesky, though, feels that protests against the board aren’t going to help the club’s struggle against relegation.

“The owners are obviously gonna get it, because West Ham [fans] are West Ham, they love it and they don’t want to see their team near the bottom of the Premier League,” he told talkSPORT.

“We know when they left Upton Park, it wasn’t a good thing from the owners, they say. Now they’re struggling in the Premier League, in their new stadium, the West Ham fans are gonna go for the owners.

“When you see things like that [protests] – players see things and read things – it affects ya. At the moment I think it’s affecting the players.

“I’d love to go and play there [the London Stadium].”

What is Konchesky on about, here?

It seems that Konchesky understands why the supporters are dissatisfied, yet still thinks they shouldn’t voice their opinion.

If protests against the board – not the players themselves – is affecting the squad then that’s a sad indictment of this group of footballers.

They need to concentrate on their football and realise that the protests aren’t against them. Pressure on the board is not pressure on them.

As for Konchesky’s assertion that he’d love to play at the London Stadium… well, the less said about that the better.

In other West Ham news, the club reportedly made a loan-to-buy offer for an Inter Milan midfielder in January.
