Paul Brown makes West Ham United transfer prediction as David Moyes ‘issue’ highlighted

West Ham will sign a new full-back in the January transfer window or next summer, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Vladimir Coufal and Emerson have been David Moyes’s first choice at right-back and left-back this season respectively.

But Brown believes more competition is needed in those areas, with the full-back position an “issue” for the Hammers.

“I’ve said before, I think both fullback positions are an issue at West Ham,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT (11 December). “Pretty sure that Moyes has wanted to strengthen them for some time in that area, but they’ve had to prioritise spending on other areas of the pitch.

“I do think you’ll see them sign a full-back either in January or certainly at the end of the season. If for no other reason, they really need competition on both sides there.

“But I think it would be very good for West Ham if they could find some quality and someone who could come in there who’s a cut above what they got.”

Needed?

West Ham certainly needed to target new midfielders in the summer transfer window following the departure of club captain Declan Rice to Arsenal.

And the East London outfit did that to superb effect, with James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez arriving from Southampton and Ajax respectively.

They have immediately hit the ground running at the London Stadium, as has attacker Mohammed Kudus, who also arrived from Ajax in the summer.

Now that the midfield is sorted for the foreseeable future, the defence may be the next area targeted, although Konstantinos Mavropanos did move to the Hammers in the summer from Stuttgart.

Moyes may, however, want to focus on strengthening his attack next month, with the futures of Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Divin Mubama all uncertain.

A new striker is definitely needed at the London Stadium, with the Hammes relying heavily on the goals of star winger Jarrod Bowen, with midfielder Tomas Soucek behind him in the club’s top scoring charts this season.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign one “breakout” ace, with a 2024 transfer on the cards for the player.
