Pablo Fornals in 3/10 shocker, Jarrod Bowen 7/10 – West Ham United player ratings v Bristol City

West Ham put in a largely unconvincing performance as they were held to a draw in the FA Cup against Bristol City on Sunday (7 January).

The Hammers went ahead through Jarrod Bowen after just four minutes when he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the net at the London Stadium.

But David Moyes will be desperately disappointed by his side’s second half display as Tommy Conway’s goal on 61 minutes earned the Championship side a 1-1 draw and a replay at Ashton Gate.

West Ham

Here West Ham Zone rates the players out of 10 for their performances.

Lukasz Fabianski – 5

The experienced keeper had a couple of shaky moments early on in the game as he almost turned what should have been a routine save into a goal for the visitors when he palmed a tame effort around the post. But he could do very little about Conway’s well-hit strike and did make a couple of good saves.

Vladimir Coufal (Off for Johnson ’74) – 6

Coufal had a decent game on his return to the starting lineup after missing the midweek clash against Brighton. He got forward well and made three key passes during the game, while also winning five of his eight duels [SofaScore].

Konstantinos Mavropanos (Off for Ogbonna ’39) – 6

The Greek was largely solid in the first half after making five clearances. But he will have been disappointed to be replaced shortly before half-time after picking up an injury.

Kurt Zouma – 4

The Hammers captain was another player to return to the lineup, but he will be disappointed with his involvement in the Robins’ goal. He was far too deep, allowing Conway to get in behind and beat Fabianski before he could get across to make a challenge.

Emerson – 3

Although Emerson looked to provide an attacking outlet down the left, he was pretty poor in his defensive duties. The left-back was dribbled past twice, while he also gave the ball away on 11 occasions for his side.

Edson Alvarez (Off for Ings ’74) – 5

Alvarez did his usual job in front of the defence reasonably well before being replaced. He picked up his customary booking, but was tidy in possession after recording a 91 per cent pass completion rate.

James Ward-Prowse – 5

While Ward-Prowse was excellent on the ball as he recorded a 94 per pass success rate, making one key pass in the process, he didn’t win a single duel as his defensive frailties in the middle of the park were highlighted.

Tomas Soucek – 6

Soucek got up and down the pitch well as he won seven out of his eight duels across the afternoon. But he did miss one big chance for the Hammers as they didn’t do enough to win the game.

Lucas Paqueta (Off for Mubama ’14) – 6

It was a disappointing afternoon for the star midfielder as he was replaced early on after picking up a knee injury. He had looked bright, though, having set up Bowen for his goal.

West Ham

Pablo Fornals (Off for Cornet) – 3

Fornals, who has been linked with a move away from the club, once again failed to impress when handed an opportunity in the side. He gave the ball away 15 times and missed one big chance before being replaced. The Spaniard just simply isn’t up to it anymore.

Jarrod Bowen – 7

It was another game where Bowen was once again the Irons’ best player on the park. He took his goal expertly well and looked dangerous every time he picked up the ball. It’s just a shame he didn’t get enough support from his teammates.

Subs

Divin Mubama (On for Paqueta ’14) – 3

The forward did very little to show why he should be more involved at the London Stadium. He will be hoping to have better days in a Hammers shirt, having recorded just a 70 per pass success rate and winning just two of his eight duels.

Angelo Ognonna (On for Mavropanos ’39) – 3

The centre-back struggled during his time on the pitch as the pace of Conway caused him problems. He stepped too far forward for the Robins forward’s goal, allowing him to get in behind and find the equaliser.

Ben Johnson (On for Coufal ’74) – 5

Did reasonably well after coming on as he cut out a dangerous cross at the back post superbly in the dying moments.

Maxwel Cornet (On for Fornals ’74) – 5

Had a few touches of the ball, but didn’t really have another time to make an impact on the game.

Danny Ings (On for Alvarez ’74) – 3

Ings had an absolutely massive chance to win the match for the Hammers, but he put his effort wide. He just can’t be trusted to do a job off the bench.
