Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: We want Jesse Lingard to pen new deal
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants West Ham-linked Jesse Lingard to sign a new deal at Manchester United.
The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at the London Stadium that helped him bring his career back on track.
Per Sky Sports, West Ham looked to sign him permanently this summer, with him having only a year left on his contract, but he ended up staying put at Old Trafford.

Addressing his stance on Lingard’s future ahead of Man United’s clash v Leicester, Ole said, via the Metro, “We want to prolong his contract, we see him as an important player for us, it’s maybe up to me to give him more playing time because he deserves to.
“Hopefully, we can get a deal sorted for Jesse because we really rate him.”
Time to forget about him
Lingard stayed under assurances of regular playing time, but we knew that he was always going to be used as a bit-part player at the Manchester outfit.
They already had a number of top attackers and added the likes of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to their side this summer.
Their arrivals put Lingard further down the pecking order, and after a handful of games into the new season, Ole’s stance on the player is for all to see.

It seems like he’s praising him so much and is keen on keeping him is down to the fact that he serves as a homegrown player not just in England but also at Manchester United.
In the Champions League, teams need to have four such players in their squads, and maybe he’s there just to fill the numbers.
For West Ham, the club must now move on and look to build the team around someone else as they cannot waste their time in what now seems to be a fruitless pursuit of their former loan hero.
