O’Hara makes West Ham v Wolves sack joke to Cundy live on talkSPORT

West Ham United’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night at the London Stadium has been branded “El Sackico” by Jamie O’Hara.

The former Wolves midfielder, live on talkSPORT [4 December, 23:54], came up with the name while sat alongside co-host Jason Cundy after the news the Hammers hierarchy were considering Julen Lopetegui’s immediate future.

It remains unclear whether Lopetegui will get the chance to take on his former club [9 December], whose boss Gary O’Neil is under equally intense pressure following a dismal 4-0 defeat by Everton on Wednesday.

“West Ham v Wolves on Monday. Is it ‘El Sackico’?,” O’Hara joked in conversation with Cundy.

“If those two managers are still in their jobs on Monday night, that is ‘El Sackico’, surely.”

As it stands, the idea that both bosses, either one of them or even neither will be in their respective dugouts on Monday night is still openly possible.

As reported by the Mirror’s John Cross on Wednesday afternoon [4 December], the Hammers were setting a 48-hour deadline to make an immediate future decision on Lopetegui, which would take the club until Friday.

The 58-year-old will naturally relish the chance not only to get one over on his ex-employers but, with bigger fish to fry, secure a much-needed victory against a side who have now conceded 36 goals in just 14 Premier League games.

Wolves, like the Irons, have enjoyed the occasional good day in the league this season, but they have been few and far between. The pressure is far multiplied at the London Stadium given the nine-figure sum spent in the summer.

If Monday does transpire to be a Lopetegui v O’Neil clash in East London, it will be one of England’s most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the week. But it could alternatively feature neither coach.
