Nuno Espirito Santo told he’d be ‘off his head’ if he does this at West Ham

Nuno Espirito Santo looks set to become the new manager of West Ham.

West Ham shockingly sacked Graham Potter on Saturday morning after what has been a poor stint in charge at the London Stadium.

Despite Potter taking on West Ham media duties on Friday, David Sullivan and Co. have opted to move the Englishman on.

This has come as a surprise, with just two days until a trip to face Everton, but it seems as if Nuno will be in charge of West Ham for that clash.

Nuno is yet to be confirmed as the new Hammers boss, but one potential element of his contract in East London is already coming under scrutiny.

Kris Boyd calls for long-term Nuno Espirito Santo contract at West Ham

It looks as if it is going to be the Portuguese head coach who takes up the now vacant role after Potter’s exit from E20.

There had been strong links of a Slaven Bilic return to West Ham, but the ex-Wolves boss looks set to win the race at the Olympic Park.

This will spark intrigue from the claret and blue faithful, as a deal for the Croatian always appeared to be with a short-term contract in mind.

There is every chance that Sullivan could replicate that thinking with the appointment of Nuno after his shock departure from Nottingham Forest.

It is this factor that Boyd has taken issue with when speaking live via Sky Sports News on 27 September, as he was left perplexed by the idea of a limited deal for the incoming head coach.

He said: “If Nuno takes the job until the end of the season, he’s off his head. Off his head. It needs to be a long-term contract where he can build something.”

West Ham must now back Nuno Espirito Santo

The former Porto man may not be the most inspiring of appointments for the Hammers, but there is no doubting his pedigree.

Nuno carried Nottingham Forest up the Premier League table and so nearly helped to secure Champions League qualification for them last season.

Nuno Espirito Santo was superb as head coach at Nottingham Forest

His use of a pragmatic and counter-attacking style of play was certainly effective and could be exactly what the Irons need.

This should be enough for Sullivan to put his money where his mouth is and back the 51-year-old over a period of many years rather than utilising yet another short-term option.
