Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Ollie Scarles is back in training ahead of West Ham’s match against Aston Villa.

West Ham are hoping to move out of the relegation zone on Sunday when they face Aston Villa on Sunday.

Despite picking up solid draws against Manchester United and Brighton, this has not been enough to take them out of the bottom three.

Now, with a Villa side up next, who have won their last five Premier League games, it is going to be a massive challenge for Nuno to get a result.

However, the Hammers have now received a boost ahead of the clash with Scarles back in training.

Nuno Espirito Santo: Ollie Scarles is back in training

Scarles has been out of action for West Ham since the end of October with a broken collarbone.

The full-back is seen as one of the Hammers’ most promising youngsters, and his absence has no doubt been a blow for Nuno.

It was feared that Scarles could be out of action for three months at West Ham as he looked to recover from this injury.

However, Nuno has now confirmed to West Ham in his press conference on 12 December that the youngster is back in training.

When asked how West Ham will soon deal with the absences of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and El Hadji Malick Diouf when they head off to AFCON, Nuno said: “We're going to miss them. We have to find solutions.

“Ollie Scarles is back in training, so he's an option for us. We'll deal with it, but for now they are still involved.”

West Ham’s record against Aston Villa explained

In recent times, West Ham have had an awful record against Villa.

The Hammers are winless in their last six meetings, with their last victory coming in a 1-0 away win back in August 2022.

Previously, West Ham had a stunning record against the Birmingham outfit, and had only lost one of their 14 meetings between November 2013 and March 2023.

This includes an incredible five-match winning run against Villa.

Now, Nuno will be looking to take inspiration from this as he aims to pull the Hammers out of the bottom three.
