Nolan speaks out on troubles at West Ham
It’s no breaking news update to say that the West Ham United supporters aren’t happy at this moment in time. In fact, they are fuming.
They’re not happy with the lack of progress made under the owners David Gold and David Sullivan, and are particularly upset with the team’s involvement in another relegation battle this season.
They feel that this wasn’t what they were promised when the duo took over a decade ago, and certainly not what was foretold when they moved from Upton Park to the London Stadium.
Former Hammers captain Kevin Nolan is a man who can appreciate both sides of the argument, as he outlined on Tuesday.
“It’s such a shame [the situation at West Ham],” he said on talkSPORT. “It’s a fantastic club. I loved playing there, I loved living round there.
“The fans are so passionate. Because I know both sides, you sort of feel sorry for both sides of it.
“I don’t want to see David Gold and David Sullivan getting the abuse they’ve got, and I know that they want West Ham to do the best they possibly can and be in the top six. They’ve spent a lot of money.
“But I don’t want to see the fans the way they are at the minute.”
Is Nolan right to feel sorry for both sides, here?
The West Ham fans will say no, obviously, but Nolan has a personal relationship with Gold and Sullivan from his time in east London.
He’s not going to come out and slate them, even if that’s what the supporters would want him to do. He’ll know, though, that the criticism of the Hammers’ board is warranted.
It’s going to take a very brave ex player to come out and really say it how it is about Gold and Sullivan.
In other West Ham news, a former England international has claimed that Jarrod Bowen will go straight into the starting XI.
