Noel Whelan issues verdict of West Ham landing ‘great acquisition’ in Jan

West Ham have made it very evident that they are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

Various reports from various source, such as Sky Sports News and reliable club source ExWHUemployee have reaffirmed the club’s intention to bring in a new stopper, and one name that keeps on being mentioned is that of former Hammer Darren Randolph.

The Republic of Ireland international is being touted as a potential recruit this month, and pundit Noel Whelan believes that he would be a fine addition.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: He’s an international, knows the Premier League, been around a long time, experience, British goalkeeper – he’d be a great acquisition.

“David Moyes knows how important it is to have somebody who can talk, who can motivate, that can organise. He’s definitely got the experience to do that and he would be a good signing.

“Whether or not Middlesbrough will allow it to happen, I very much doubt it. Middlesbrough need him right now and Boro have really turned the corner at the minute. They’ll want to keep hold of what players they have.”

The West Ham Zone View of things is pretty much the same as Whelan’s too.

Randolph is an exemplary talent, with plenty of experience and a good knowledge of what it takes to represent the Hammers.

The many sticking point here, as is so often the case with stories like this, is whether or not his current club can be persuaded to sell.

Randolph has been out injured of late for Middlesbrough, and in his absence young stopper Aynsley Pears has stepped up to the plate well, with seven clean sheets in 12 Championship matches, as per Transfermarkt.

Perhaps that could influence Boro’s decision, or perhaps, as is far more likely to be the case, the Championship side will want to hang on to their experienced option as an insurance policy.
