Nikola Vlasic’s father reveals his son shouldn’t have joined West Ham

The father of West Ham signing Nikola Vlasic, has revealed that his son should have joined AC Milan instead of the Irons.

Speaking to Croatian paper Vecerjni List [page 39], the 23-year-old’s dad had wanted to see him playing at the San Siro in the Champions League instead of at the London Stadium.

Vlasic was heavily linked with a move to the Serie A giants all summer, but the Hammers moved quickly and brought in the attacking midfielder.

This is what he said in full: “It all took too long, that uncertainty. Nikola stayed in Moscow for too long, and it was time for a new step.

“CSKA is a great club, not only in Russia. After all, the first season when Nikola came, they beat Real Madrid twice in the Champions League, in Madrid and in Moscow.

“We all knew that the time of parting would come; it just took a little longer. I am happy that he’s going to England, to one of the strongest European leagues.

“He should have [gone to Milan]. Milan wanted him badly, but the clubs failed to agree on compensation.”

Vlasic’s dad is happy in the end.

Despite sounding like he wanted to see his son move to Italy, Vlasic’s dad does indicate that he is happy to see his son play in the Premier League.

So it seems as if the Irons have pulled off a bit of a coup by beating AC Milan to the 23-year-old’s signature.

West Ham

Vlasic is naturally an attacking midfielder, but he can play in a variety of positions, and we are excited to see how he is going to fit into David Moyes’ team.

Given how well Said Benrahma has started the campaign, we would expect that he will face a fight to get into the side in his favoured position.

However, competition can only be a good thing for both him and the Irons.

In other West Ham news, this Irons duo are in line for huge new contracts.
