Nikola Vlasic in talks with Duje Caleta-Car as West Ham plot January loan move

West Ham are interested in signing Marseille centre-back Duje Caleta-Car on loan before the January transfer window shuts, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable Hammers insider claimed on the West Ham Way Patreon on Tuesday afternoon (25 January) that the defender’s fellow Croatia international Nikola Vlasic has spoken to his compatriot about the move.

The Irons may have to take a gamble and try and sign Caleta-Car in the coming days, which is what Marseille want them to do.

Hope?

A loan deal would make a lot of sense for West Ham as they can always opt against a permanent move in the summer if they are not convinced with his performances.

He has been on their radar for a while, and landing him this month could come as a huge boost if he manages to hit the ground running at the London Stadium.

Kurt Zouma is back in action, but the Hammers could do with an upgrade on both Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, and Caleta-Car fits the bill.

Vlasic has enjoyed his time at the club since arriving in the summer, and he would be looking to convince him into agreeing to the move.

West Ham need to be better at the back if they want to be playing Champions League football next season.

They have kept just two clean sheets in their last 14 Premier League games and conceded 21 goals, and that has to change.

Diop and Dawson are clearly not the answers, and a move for someone as solid as Caleta-Car could make a lot of difference.
