Niclas Füllkrug shares ‘extreme’ West Ham transfer admission

Niclas Füllkrug was convinced to join West Ham after the club’s “extreme” attempts to sign him.

The Hammers signed the striker from Borussia Dortmund this summer for £27million (via BBC Sport, 5 August).

Füllkrug is currently away with the German national team and has been discussing his move to the London Stadium.

While speaking with Ruhr Nachrichten (4 September), the 31-year-old said, “I felt an incredible amount of conviction and appreciation.

“The club, the coach and the manager really wanted to sign me, they showed me a great plan. It was so extreme that I realised: I want to do this.”

West Ham United striker Niclas Füllkrug to shine at the London Stadium?

The Julen Lopetegui era is well and truly underway at the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ last season in charge of West Ham was not a positive one, and supporters were desperate to see a fresh face in the hot seat.

Following his arrival at the club, Lopetegui has been looking to build a brand-new squad in his image. That was evident by the number of players signed by the club over the summer.

And based on what Füllkrug has been saying, it appears as though the forward was a key target for Lopetegui.

However, the German is yet to start or score in the Premier League and he will no doubt hope to receive more first-team minutes upon his return from international duty.

Füllkrug is an experienced striker who has played at the highest level of European football, and he could prove crucial for West Ham as the season progresses.

In other West Ham news, Jeff Stelling has urged the club to “take a punt” on a former UEFA Champions League winner.
