Niclas Fullkrug injury update shared by West Ham United sources as FIFA intervene
Niclas Fullkrug has returned to Germany for treatment while West Ham receive compensation from FIFA for his injury, according to Sean Whetstone.
The Hammers insider reported via his West Ham Football account on X [23 October] that the 31-year-old has suffered a complication with a minor injury that he suffered on international duty last month.
This means that the Irons can receive compensation from the FIFA Club Protection Programme, which pays for the striker’s wages due to picking up the issue while away with his country.
The scheme doesn’t cover the first 28 days of recovery, meaning that this compensation started 18 days ago if the injury was sustained against Hungary on 7 September.
Whetstone quotes a club source as saying of reports Fullkrug is back in Germany: “Sadly it’s true, we don’t seem to be having any luck with this player.”
West Ham receive Niclas Fullkrug compensation amid injury setback
There was so much excitement surrounding the ex-Borussia Dortmund striker when he completed a move to the London Stadium in the summer.
This excitement followed on from the other signings that have been made, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also coming in.
There have been few success stories from the transfer window with the Germany international arguably being the most disappointing.
It has to be said that it isn’t his fault and his injury concern has just continued to get worse over the weeks despite looking innocuous to begin with.
This has left the Hammers without their main striker for the campaign so far, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings being relied on for goals.
This is a far from ideal situation for Julen Lopetegui and Co. which has made his start to life in East London more difficult than it might have been.
The only silver lining is that FIFA are covering Fullkrug’s wages but this won’t provide much comfort to the Hammers.
In other West Ham news, one rarely-seen signing could be unleashed by Julen Lopetegui in another star’s absence.
