Niclas Fullkrug injury twist emerges at West Ham United ahead of clash v Fulham
Niclas Fullkrug will miss West Ham United’s clash with Fulham but his injury is not as bad as initially feared, according to Sean Whetstone.
Whetstone reported via the West Ham Football X account (11 September) that the German international should be fit to play a part in the Irons’ clash with Chelsea on Saturday 21 September at the London Stadium.
Fullkrug’s injury isn’t tendinitis in his Achilles as was originally thought but a bruise to his ankle and the 31-year-old has been told to rest for three days before making a return to the fold under Julen Lopetegui.
How long is West Ham attacker Niclas Fullkrug injured for at the London Stadium?
West Ham fans can now rest easy. As is natural during the international break, there were plenty of supporters worried that the Irons marquee attacking addition this summer was going to be stuck to the treatment table before he even got going.
While it is a blow that Fullkrug will miss the clash with Fulham, especially after he impressed during the international break, the Hammers are unlikely to miss the German international too much if he’s only ruled out for one game.
One of Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen or potentially even Danny Ings will almost certainly lead the line in the 31-year-old’s absence. While none of them are the perfect forward, they are experienced at this level and should provide more than enough firepower for the Irons to get a result
Hopefully, after a couple of days rest to allow the bruising to go down, Fullkrug should be chomping at the bit to get stuck back in before the Hammers welcome Chelsea to the London Stadium next week.
Supporters haven’t yet seen the best of the striker in claret and blue, especially in the Premier League where his opportunities have been limited.
This slightly extended break may just allow him a bit mre time to find his feet in England and as a West Ham player.
