Niclas Fullkrug injury fears emerge at West Ham United – ExWHUemployee

West Ham United fear that Niclas Fullkrug could remain sidelined with injury for a number of weeks yet, according to ExWHUemployee.

The Irons source reported via The West Ham Way (16 October) that it is now “extremely unlikely” that the German international will return for the clash with Tottenham on Saturday (19 October) as initially expected.

Whether or not Fullkrug will return to the fold for the clash with Manchester United at the London Stadium a week on Sunday (27 October) also remains unclear, with the 31-year-old’s inclusion doubtful.

The former Borussia Dortmund man hasn’t featured for the Hammers since the September international break when he was injured whilst away with Germany and is still waiting to make his first Premier League start.

What has happened to Niclas Fullkrug at West Ham United and the London Stadium?

It is safe to say that so far, Fullkrug’s move from Dortmund to the London Stadium has been nothing short of a disaster as the German international has struggled for both form and fitness.

While the suggestion from within the club has always been that the striker isn’t too far away from being back in the first-team fold, it has now been well over a month since he was last seen playing in a claret and blue shirt.

Although Julen Lopetegui has both Michail Antonio and Danny Ings to call upon to help fill the void left at the top end of the field, neither player has exactly been prolific during their time in East London.

Somehow, the Hammers have to find a way to get Fullkrug back to full fitness sooner rather than later. No player should be missing more than four weeks of action because of an injury that was originally believed to be minor.

Hopefully, Fullkrug will make a miraculous recovery and return to the fold sooner than expected. There is still an incredibly slim chance he could make the bench against Spurs and who knows, maybe he’ll be fit and raring to go by the time United are in town.
