Newcastle United sweat on Joe Willock injury, three players already out v West Ham United

Newcastle United are sweating on the fitness of Joe Willock ahead of their Premier League clash against West Ham United, according to the Shields Gazette.

Willock, 23, was on the scoresheet for Eddie Howe’s side during their 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday (2 April).

However, the former Arsenal man was substituted in the closing stages with a hamstring issue and is now a “doubt” for the game at the London Stadium on Wednesday (5 April).

West Ham

The Magpies are also without Miguel Almiron, who has 11 goals so far in the 2022/23 campaign. Emil Krafth is also out of action as well as Ryan Fraser has been banished to the under-23s and won’t feature against Moyes’ men (Shields Gazette, 4 April).

Tough test

With Howe’s side coming off of an impressive win over Manchester United, this one is looking like an extremely tough test for the Irons. Newcastle are in an excellent position to secure Champions League football and will view the trip to the London Stadium as a good opportunity to make it four wins on the spin.

West Ham’s performance at the weekend wasn’t vintage, but they did enough to get over the line against a truly lacklustre Southampton side, who are destined to be playing their football in the Championship come the start of the 2023/24 season.

West Ham United

The performance levels will have to improve massively on Wednesday and if West Ham fail to produce, Moyes will once again be staring down the barrel. The Scot has come back from the brink many a time this season and will be hoping to finally put some breathing space between the Hammers and the relegation zone.

Back-to-back wins could well be season-defining for the West Ham boss.
