Newcastle are set to miss out as West Ham are on the verge of signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on loan, according to the Northern Echo.
The news outlet reported on 24 January that both clubs were keen on the England international, but the London outfit have won the race to secure his services.
The 28-year-old was struggling to get game time under Pep Guardiola and will join the Hammers on loan in order to get that.
