Newcastle submit formal bid for West Ham defender Issa Diop

Newcastle United have earmarked West Ham defender Issa Diop as an option on the transfer deadline day.

According to reports from RMC, the Magpies have tabled a £6.6million (8 million Euros) bid for Diop.

The report, however, doesn’t add whether the Hammers have accepted or rejected the move.

RMC have shared the report on the transfer live blog post today [31 January, 09:56 am]:

Unlikely

The 25-year-old has a contract at the club till 2023, and surely the offer submitted for the Frenchman is very low for consideration.

Most importantly, the Hammers would be made to offload him this month, considering they are already short of options at the back.

Kurt Zouma has only returned from a long injury lay-off while Angelo Ogbonna is out for the rest of the season.

Diop has been pretty average so far, and failed to grab the opportunities in the absence of Zouma.

West Ham

He has made eight Premier League appearances thus far and has failed to exude confidence at the back.

Having said that, selling him now will weaken the squad especially with West Ham yet to sign a defender to their ranks.

A host of players have been linked with a move, and even if the Hammers manage to sign someone before the deadline, they should reject any offers for Diop.
