Newcastle confident of beating West Ham to Christian Eriksen signing

Newcastle are reportedly confident of beating West Ham and any other suitors to the signing of Christian Eriksen.

According to the Northern Echo, the Brentford attacking midfielder is coveted by a host of Premier League teams with include Tottenham and Everton as well.

However, the Magpies are willing to offer him a significant pay hike and look to sign him for free as his deal expires at the end of the season.

Losing chances

The Hammers chances of signing Eriksen now seem to be very bleak.

For starters, he still holds a strong affinity for Spurs – one of West Ham’s biggest rivals.

Secondly, with Spurs also keen on securing his services, he would fancy moving there than the London Stadium.

Also, given Newcastle’s deep pockets, whatever West Ham can afford to pay him is going to be significantly less than what the Magpies can.

Thus, the Hammers must give up chase right away rather than getting involved in a long-drawn transfer saga in the summer.

Eriksen is also on the wrong side of 30 so it makes sense for the club to look at younger options.

David Moyes must start pushing for his desired targets right away otherwise it could be another shambolic window for the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have scouted a £20m-rated ‘Dangerous’ British striker and want to seal a permanent move this summer.
