New Times editor Tony Gallagher is huge West Ham United fan

The Times announced on Wednesday morning that West Ham fan Tony Gallagher has been appointed as their new editor.

Gallagher previously served The Sun as editor-in-chief-from 2015, up until he joined The Times as deputy editor.

The 58-year-old has now been promoted to become their new chief editor and will take charge of running the daily British newspaper.

After the announcement was made, head of talkSPORT Lee Clayton, chimed in by offering a better headline for the update.

Clayton posted on Twitter: “Wrong headline. It should have said: ‘West Ham fan is new editor of The Times’.

“Many congratulations to Tony. A brilliant man and a brilliant operator. And a Hammer.”

West Ham

A Headline Hammer

As the chief of talkSPORT, there’s no surprise that Clayton is good at writing headlines.

Clayton is constantly sharing his love of West Ham over his social media pages, and it’s good to see him acknowledging another big Hammers fan getting a top job in the media.

Clayton started his career at The Sun – the same place Gallagher was first made chief editor, and the pair are clearly close after he labelled Gallagher “brilliant” in his Tweet.

With both Hammers fans now in high positions, we can hope for some great coverage of the club this season. Although, with David Moyes’ side currently sat at the bottom end of the Premier League table, there’s no guarantee it’s going to be good news.

Nevertheless, it’s always good to celebrate the achievements of fellow Hammers fans. Let’s hope that sooner rather than later the club turn things around and go back to being praised in the media.
