New £200k-a-week twist emerges in West Ham United bid to secure late January Jota transfer
Jota is willing to take a pay cut to complete his move to West Ham United during the January transfer window, according to Claret and Hugh.
The outlet reported on its website on Monday (29 January) that the Portuguese winger earns £200,000 a week with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad and they expected that the Hammers would cover the entirety of those fees for the remainder of the season.
Jota’s wages proved to be a stumbling block in the deal, but it appears that he is so keen to leave the Middle East and complete his switch to the London Stadium that he would be willing to cut his salary to get the deal over the line.
Negotiations are on
West Ham need a new winger and Jota wants to move away from Saudi Arabia. A January move appears to be the perfect solution for all parties, but it was never going to be that easy for this deal to get over the line, especially so late in the window.
David Moyes’ side are already having to shell out a large amount of money for Kalvin Phillips’ wages having signed him on loan from Manchester City, so they were never likely to been keen on doing the same for the Portuguese winger this month.

However, if Jota is willing to cut his wages as has been reported, that could massively boost the Irons’ hopes of getting this deal over the line, as it suddenly makes it a more affordable option than spending big on a new winger.
It seems that all parties are keen to get this deal over the line and are doing what they can to try and make the deal work. Hopefully, the creases can be ironed out before the January deadline and Moyes can finally add to his forward line.
