Nayef Aguerd makes Rennes howler amid £12m West Ham report, journalist sends Irons message

West Ham-linked defender Nayef Aguerd made an awful mistake on Sunday to cost Rennes two points in their Ligue 1 opener, leading a French journalist to send a transfer message.

The Times published a report on the weekend claiming a £12million transfer to take 25-year-old Moroccan to the London Stadium was on the cards.

But Aguerd made a howler for the French club on Sunday in a 1-1 draw versus Lens that made Ouest-France journalist Anthony Etienvre tweet on his personal Twitter profile: “I hope there are no West Ham recruiters at the stadium because we could miss a great deal…”

He added: “I like him too. But at the price that I see circulating there is not even a thought to hesitate and we will seek experience in this position! It’s not just linking to his mistake.”

One to avoid?

Aguerd’s not a player we have seen a lot of, but judging by Etienvre’s tweets and other Rennes fans in the comments, they’re not exactly enamoured by his performances.

While they seem to rate his abilities somewhat, it appears that the £12million fee mooted is rather flattering, and that they would be happy for the club to accept that for him.

However, one thing not mentioned was that he actually played a crucial role in the goal Rennes scored to open the scoring against Lens, making an important interception in the build-up.

It might not matter anyway though – a deal for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic looks imminent while Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma is still also under consideration.

Would West Ham really sign two central defenders this summer? That appears unlikely.

In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Brilliant’ young attacker who shone on Sky Sports on the weekend.
