Writing in their live transfer blog [20 June, 08:41 am], Sky Sports shared the news ahead of the first major announcement of the summer.

“West Ham completed the final details on the signing of central defender Nayef Aguerd from Rennes over the weekend,” they wrote.

“An official announcement confirming the 26-year-old’s move to the London Stadium is expected later today.

“Aguerd has agreed a five-year contract with the Hammers and the fee is understood to be worth £30m including add ons.”

Perfect.

The Irons have tied down Aguerd for numerous years in what will no doubt be the prime of his career.

With late news of a potential hijack from Newcastle for the deal, it is more credit to the Hammers for getting it done and across the line with no hitches in the end.

Aguerd will arrive ahead of pre-season and have all summer to get used to his new surroundings and teammates before embarking on what will no doubt be the biggest moment of not only his career but life too.

David Moyes will breathe a huge sigh of relief too with one of his main targets now tied down for the long haul until the summer of 2027, thankfully.

With the announcement only hours away, it will be brilliant to see the defender in claret and blue for the first time and let’s hope this is the star of something special.
