National media makes ‘important’ admission on West Ham United ace Tomas Soucek in 6/10 performance

West Ham United ace Tomas Soucek delivered an “important” performance as Czechia national media reacted to his performance in the 2-0 win against Albania.

Soucek played the full 90 minutes for his country on Friday [11 October] in the UEFA Nations League as a Tomas Chory brace secured a comfortable home win at the epet ARENA.

Czechia are now in a favourable position to qualify for the knockout stages and sit at joint top of the group with Georgia after two matches.

Czech website iSport.cz [12 October] complimented his “important” display with a 6/10 match rating, writing: “He didn’t rush anywhere, he kept the middle of the field. When he got space, he complemented Chorý well in the box and won important duels. A solid performance corresponding to what he has to do most on the pitch.”

Tomas Soucek has big weeks ahead at West Ham United

The 29-year-old has started all but one match for Julen Lopetegui at the Hammers this season and has won over his new boss [Give Me Sport] after being initially deemed surplus to requirements.

This is in part due to his work ethic, the midfielder has been putting in the effort at Rush Green on his days off [The Athletic] in a bid to win over Lopetegui in East London. If every player at the Irons showed the same determination as Soucek, then maybe the club would not be sat in 12th place only five points clear of the relegation zone.

Soucek has become part of the furniture at the London Stadium since his move from Slavia Prague permanently in 2020 and was an integral cog in the midfield under David Moyes, his usual partner James Ward-Prowse wasn’t so lucky and completed a season-long loan move to Nottingham Forest this summer.

West Ham

With the new additions of Carlos Soler and Guido Rodriguez to the midfield ranks, the pair have failed to catch the eye thus far in the Premier League, allowing Soucek to resurge himself back into first-team contention.

However, Lopetegui will be eager to build a West Ham side in his image after the influx of signings throughout the summer. Soucek must carry his international form back to East London and continue to work hard to show the Spaniard why he is integral to the side moving forward.
