Mykhaylo Mudryk signing now next to impossible for West Ham United

West Ham look set to miss out on Myhaylo Mudryk according to Claret & Hugh, with Arsenal leading the race to sign the Shakhtar Donetsk winger.

Mudryk has been a breakthrough star in Ukraine, shining for Shakhtar both domestically and in Europe. A bidding war was inevitable in January, with the 21-year-old ready to make a step up in his career.

A Premier League move always looked likely, with West Ham, Everton, Brighton, Brentford and Arsenal all showing interest in the Ukrainian this season. [90Min]

However, it seems the Gunners are set to win the race for Mudryk [The Mirror], with a move to West Ham now looking next to impossible according to Claret & Hugh. According to football.london, Shakhtar will only demand £40million for his signature.

Even the Shakhtar vice president has acknowledged interest from the Gunners. As per Calcio Mercato, Carlo Nicolini said: “The interest of Arsenal there is, I can’t deny it.”

Time to move on

David Moyes seems keen to do business in January, with his job under huge pressure at the London Stadium following a poor start to the season.

Goals have been a real issue for the Hammers in the Premier League, with neither Michail Antonio nor Gianluca Scamacca providing enough firepower.

Therefore it made sense why the Hammers threw their name in the hat for Mudryk, but it seems Moyes’ bid got lost in a huge pile of offers on Mudryks’s table.

If Moyes is still eager to bring in a new forward in January then he better get looking elsewhere. Luizao has already arrived to bolster the defensive department, and one more signing to add creativity and goals will likely round up the rest of West Ham’s transfer business next month.

But while Moyes is focused on bringing new faces to the London Stadium, he’ll have to focus just as much on getting the best out of summer signings Lucas Paqueta and Scamacca.
