Moyes provides West Ham transfer update
We are now fully into the silly season that is the transfer window being open, and West Ham United are once again being linked with plenty of moves.
However, there are two deals that are thought to be further along than any others, namely goalkeeper Darren Randolph and midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday that a deal in principe has been agreed with Benfica for the latter, while the Evening Standard claim that an injury to the former has put a £4million move on hold.
Naturally, though, with Hammers boss David Moyes holding his pre match press conference on Thursday, journalists wanted to hear from the horse’s mouth.
“He’s [Fernandes] one name which we are talking about,” he said, as per Football London. “I couldn’t tell you about any agreement since I have come into training and to the press conference.
“More importantly, he is a young player with potential, more so for the future. He’s got good pedigree. I’d like to bring young players in to build a strong, young team.”
And on Randolph: “At the moment, he is carrying a bit of an injury he’s had for several weeks and we have to make sure it has healed. That’s where the delay is but I am still very hopeful we can’t get it done.”
West Ham Zone’s View
It’s certainly seems as if the Irons are close to sealing both of these deals, otherwise Moyes wouldn’t have addressed them as explicitly as he did, here.
Randolph really feels like it’s going to be done soon, just about as soon as the Hammers ascertain the extent of his injury problem. As long as it’s not a long-term one, the Republic of Ireland international should return to the London Stadium.
Fernandes sounds like it’s a bit more complicated and, as far as Moyes is concerned, it’s not a transfer that’s as close as it’s being reported to be.
In other West Ham news, the Scot has delivered an injury update on a number of first team players.
