Millwall coach Chris Perry sends two-word message as West Ham United make announcement

Millwall coach Chris Perry has sent a two-word congratulatory message to Kenny Brown who has become the academy manager at West Ham.

The Hammers confirmed the announcement on Thursday (23 February) that Brown has taken the role on a permanent basis after he served as interim academy manager since November.

Brown, who spent six years as Academy Head of Coaching at Millwall, previously played 82 games for West Ham across a five-year playing career in the early 1990s.

“Proud, humble and honoured to be given the opportunity to oversee the Academy at a fantastic club, which means so much to me and my family,” wrote Brown on Twitter.

“Congratulations Kenny,” replied Perry.

Academy

Brown has a long association with the Hammers. He was not only a former player at the club, but also the son of the club-legend great Ken Brown Sr, an FA Cup winner in 1964 and European Cup Winners’ Cup winner in 1965.

He is a vastly experienced coach and he will be asked to share his experience to aid the development of young talents at Chadwell Heath.

West Ham

The Hammers academy has produced some great players over the years, and they continue to do so with enviable results. The new batch of young talents – Divin Mubama, Ollie Scarles, Kaelan Casey and Kamarai Swyer – have made their senior debuts for the club already in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

At the same time, the Under-18 side secured their first FA Youth Cup semi-final spot since 1999 this week when they defeated Ipswich Town 4-2. With ex-players like Mark Noble overseeing projects, the academy is in great hands at the moment.
