Michail Antonio steps up recovery as ‘specialist’ West Ham plan emerges
Michail Antonio is stepping up his recovery as a new West Ham United plan is revealed.
The football world was left shocked after it emerged that Antonio had an unfortunate road traffic accident on 7 December.
He had to be airlifted to a hospital as pictures circulating on social media of a wrecked Ferrari left fans worried for his health.
The Jamaica international required surgery on a broken foot but was discharged from a London hospital later in December, and is now set to enter the next stage of his recovery.
Michail Antonio jets out to Dubai
Antonio, who returned home in December, jetted out to Dubai to continue his rehab on Friday, according to Sean Whetstone.
The West Ham insider reported via his personal X account on 7 February. that the 34-year-old will spend a fortnight at a “specialist” rehab facility in the United Arab Emirates.
Niclas Fullkrug is already undergoing rehab at the said facility, with whom the East London outfit have a deal.
Antonio, meanwhile, is scheduled to return to England on 20 February before attending the game against Leicester at the London Stadium on 27 February as a guest of honour.
There are plans in place to unfurl a “giant” Antonio tifo that day, with Ironwork Alliance already raising funds for that purpose.
West Ham consider new contract for Antonio
It is worth noting that Antonio’s contract at the London Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season.
With the striker still on the road to recovery, West Ham are considering handing him a new deal to support him as he fights his way back to fitness.
The Premier League club previously made a similar move by handing Angelo Ogbonna a one-year contract extension after he suffered a long-term injury.

Antonio, meanwhile, has visited Rush Green on a few occasions since Graham Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui as their head coach in January, according to The Sun.
He will be hopeful of making his return to Premier League football soon, although he will have to wait at least a few more months for that.
