Michail Antonio shares what he will do if he scores for West Ham v Newcastle on Sat

Saturday lunchtime’s tasty game at the London Stadium between West Ham United and Newcastle United has more to it than just the three points.

For Hammers top scorer Michail Antonio and Magpies number nine Callum Wilson, it is the battle of the podcast.

The duo co-host the Footballer’s Football Podcast on BBC Sounds together and often digest the week’s football news while addressing their own team’s fortunes.

31-year-old Antonio revealed on this week’s episode what he would do if he scored against his good friend’s team on Saturday.

“It is definitely going to be a hard game with the way you guys have performed in the past few weeks, you see the resilience in your team, and we’ve shown that as well,” Antonio said.

“We’ve basically gotten things even though we’ve not performed at our best. Three points are needed to be fair, we’re going for this fourth spot so we can’t let up.

“We have to go for it, and as much as I like you and the relationship that we’ve built on this podcast, we can’t let up, and if I score this weekend I will throw up a W for you,”

Do it after the game

Hosting a podcast together makes it quite difficult to avoid touching on the big game at the weekend but Antonio needs to keep his head focused when he meets eyes with Wilson.

They will surely have a quick smile at each other before the game but once the whistle is blown, it shouldn’t matter who is on the opposition side.

If Antonio plays his usual way, taking no prisoners because they are teammates with his mate, he will cause big problems for the Magpies defence.

Once the full-time whistle is blown, no one would begrudge him from going up to Wilson and having a good chat on the pitch – as long as there hasn’t been any kind of controversy involving either of them during the 90 minutes.

We’re all for having friends at other clubs but players must know where the line is when it comes to game day.
