Michail Antonio reveals what David Moyes said after West Ham United v Manchester City
The first game of the new Premier League season did not go to plan for West Ham United as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were the side to deal the hammering as Erling Haaland scored both goals in a game dominated by the reigning champions from start to finish.
Irons striker Michail Antonio has since revealed what the West Ham boss had to say to his troops after the full-time whistle while on the Footballers’ Football Podcast.
“Their system is liquid, it can’t be contained,” Antonio said. “It was a masterclass and it’s just one of those things where you’ve got to put your hands up and say they were unbelievable.
“I think I touched the ball seven times in the whole entire game. We couldn’t get close to them when we would try to press because they could just pop it around us.
“It was a masterclass and that is what the manager said. He was like, ‘look, they were on fire today and we’re just going to have to give it to them’.”
Move on
As soon as the fixtures were announced for the 2022-23 campaign, West Ham knew that there was a good chance they would not get off to the best start on the first weekend in August and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

You could argue that it’s good to get the toughest games out of the way early so you can start to gain momentum once they are done and dusted.
Moyes would have hoped to cause an upset to the Premier League champions but this result was never going to define the club’s season unless both sides go unbeaten until the end.
Even for Guardiola’s troops, that would be a tall order so this can’t be something that the management or players get hung up on for any longer than Sunday night.
All the attention has to now turn to Nottingham Forest on Sunday and if that is another lacklustre display with little attacking threat, then there could be cause for concern but there is no need to judge the side on one game against the very best.
