Michael Owen waxes lyrical of Michail Antonio in West Ham win v Leeds

Michael Owen was in awe of Michail Antonio’s composed finish that saw West Ham pick up the three points against Leeds United.

After being down for most of the game, the Hammers would have taken a point from their trip to Elland Road, but went on to win it courtesy of the 31-year-old’s late goal.

He showed the poise that every successful number nine needs in front of goal and was duly praised by Owen after the game.

In Premier League Productions’ post-match show, he said, “It was a calm, composed finish. Some players just want to blast it but this was very good and he shows how it should be done. Impressive stuff from Antonio.”

What a victory

For most parts, the Hammers looked far from impressive, but David Moyes kept believing and made the right changes that guided this side over the finishing line.

Antonio played a peripheral role throughout the game, but showed up when it mattered the most to win it for his side.

Owen, who knows a thing or two about scoring goals, was also impressed by the quality of the finish.

The Jamaica international is now up to five goals and three assists in five Premier League games this season.

For all of West Ham’s striker woes, he’s come into the peak of his form at the right point and hopefully continues to deliver until the club finally get a replacement in.

As things stand, he’s taking very good care of this team.
