Michael Owen reacts to penalty decision in West Ham United win v Fulham
Michael Owen has slammed Fulham defender Andreas Pereira for giving away the penalty from Jarrod Bowen scored as West Ham won 3-1 against Fulham on Sunday in the Premier League.
The Hammers were trailing after Pereira fired in from a tight angle. But the defender fouled Craig Dawson in the penalty box, and the referee awarded a penalty.
Bowen stepped up to convert it. Owen feels it was the right decision but he described Pereira’s mistake as “absolute insanity”.

“This is possibly got to be the stupidest act on a football field I’ve ever seen. He is basically telling the whole world just watch what I’m about to do, and goes on and does it,” Owen said on Premier League Tv Production.
“It’s absolute insanity. Whether you think it’s a penalty or not, I think it is, but what precedes it is the thing. The referee is glued to that and he has to give the penalty.”
Spot on
It is indeed one of the stupidest acts on the pitch. He was warned before the corner for his constant hustling on Dawson.
He was already under the strong observation of the referee, and yet he goes on and fouls him in the box. Marco Silva can complain all day long but he didn’t leave the referee with any choice.
It was a crucial moment in the game, as it allowed the Hammers to crawl back into it. Then two-second half goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio sealed the tie in their favour.
There were some contentious decisions that went in the Hammers’ favour, but Moyes will be overall pleased with the effort from the players.

Declan Rice was magnificent throughout the game, while Scamacca has now scored in three consecutive games. His confidence should be sky-high at the moment.
Also, Antonio is playing an important role at the moment. He is being used properly by Moyes, and the striker is making an impact from the bench as well.
The Hammers have now picked up back-to-back wins in the Premier League for this first time this season.
