Michael Owen predicts result of West Ham United clash v Norwich City

Michael Owen expects West Ham to go full steam ahead for a top six finish when they face Norwich on Sunday [May 8] after their Europa League exit.

The Hammers were beaten 1-0 by Frankfurt to fall at the semi-final stage, and now have just three games remaining this season to secure European football for next year.

Owen, speaking to BetVictor, believes that with Norwich already relegated and David Moyes’ side looking to bounce back, they should be able to earn a routine 2-0 win at Carrow Road.

“Norwich are officially relegated; it’s just not happened for them this season,” he said.

“I worried for them at the start of the season defensively, but the lack of goals in the side has been a real surprise. They’ll just be wanting to end the season and begin planning for next year.

“West Ham’s league form has really taken a hit in the second half of the season, particularly as they focus on the Europa League.

“Despite that, they still have a chance of a top six finish, and they’ll want to ensure European football for another season.

“West Ham will win this, I don’t think Norwich have enough to threaten them. 2-0.”

Must win

All eyes have been put on the Europa League in recent weeks but with that dream now coming to a crashing end, Moyes must find a way to end the season positively.

With nine points left to play for, the club should be aiming to win all three games to secure a finish as high as possible in the league ahead of what will be a massive summer.

Key players are likely to attract interest from elsewhere during the transfer window and the club must build rather than weaken themselves to show they can compete next season too.

They couldn’t have asked for a better game to bounce back in against a side who have already been relegated and have nothing to play for.

This is a chance to get back to winning ways and build some momentum towards the end of a campaign that is risking fizzling out into disappointment after such great highs.
