Michael Owen predicts result of West Ham clash v Brighton
Michael Owen has backed West Ham United to return to winning ways in the Premier League against Brighton.
The pundit has predicted that the Irons will win 2-1 at the London Stadium, bouncing back from their two-match winless run.
After beating Leeds, David Moyes’ side have drawn with Crystal Palace and were swept aside by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.
Writing in his Bet Victor predictions column, Owen claimed that the Hammers should have enough to get past the Seagulls this week.
“West Ham suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Stamford Bridge last Monday night,” he said. “The result probably flattered Chelsea a bit as the Hammers were well in the game until the late second goal.
“Brighton’s draw at home to Sheffield United must have been a disappointment for Seagulls fans. This has happened so often this season, and despite looking good on the eye at times, they now languish in 17th position.
“I’ve seen enough of West Ham to think they’ll have enough to beat a Brighton side that could find themselves in trouble if they don’t start winning matches soon.”
If the Hammers are serious about competing for European qualification this season, this game with Brighton will be a must-win.
The Seagulls are struggling this season, and are sitting just above the relegation zone after their draw with Sheffield United.
The Blades have only picked up two points this season, and they were on the verge of beating Brighton with 10 men after John Lundstram’s red-card, something which shows real signs of fragility.
West Ham will be targeting this game, and after watching that draw, they will be fully confident of picking up three points.
Three points would keep the Irons in touch with the likes of Tottenham approaching the halfway stage, and that would be classed as a great success.
