Michael Owen praises Declan Rice; predicts West Ham v Tottenham

West Ham will face Tottenham Hotspur in a crucial London derby clash in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the match, Michael Owen has predicted a 2-1 victory for the Hammers at the London Stadium.

West Ham are in fantastic form at the moment, having picked up five wins from their last six games in all competitions.

Owen has showered heaps of praise on West Ham skipper Declan Rice, saying the England midfielder was “exceptional” during their 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park last week.

The pundit has suggested that Rice is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at the moment. He adds that the Hammers are looking very organised under David Moyes and feels they can snatch a victory against their London rivals.

“That was a very impressive win for West Ham last week. I thought the whole side played well but I’ve got to talk about Declan Rice,” wrote Owen for BetVictor.

“I thought he was exceptional last week and inspired his side with a captain’s performance.  He’s kicked on after a great showing for England over the summer and is one of the league’s best midfielders.

“It couldn’t have been easy for Spurs to have played in such a raucous atmosphere at St James’ Park last week, especially going behind so early! They recovered well though and they looked a real threat.

“West Ham look such a well-organised, well-coached side at the minute. The team are clearly going out expecting to win games and I think they can narrowly edge this London Derby. I’ll say 2-1.”

Massive game

Rice is arguably enjoying his best form at the moment. The 22-year-old impressed heavily during the Euro championships, and he is playing with loads of confidence and swagger.

The West Ham skipper was outstanding during their 3-0 victory over Genk as well on Thursday in the Europa League clash.

Moyes will be looking to break into the top four this season, and they will leapfrog Spurs in the table, should they manage a win here.

In contrast, Spurs have been very inconsistent in the league. They lost back to back London derbies against Chelsea and Arsenal but bounced back with two wins against Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Spurs have lost against Crystal Palace as well last month, and Owen feels that they would be losing yet another London derby this weekend.

In other West Ham news, Jack Wilshere has predicted major Hammers exit, but reckons one goal would stop it.
