Michael Owen delivers David Moyes sack verdict at West Ham United as UEFA Conference League triumph on cards
Michael Owen believes that David Moyes can right all the wrongs of this season by winning the Conference League with West Ham.
The Hammers face AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals and if they win it, they need to beat either Basel or Fiorentina to the trophy.
This has been in the same season where they’ve been battling relegation and Moyes faced the very real possibility of getting the sack.

Speaking on Premier League Productions after the Manchester City game, Owen said [03/05, 22:49], “It’s been really tough for Moyes this season with reports of him being close [to a sack]. West Ham haven’t won anything for years. So regardless of what’s happened with the manager, it’ll be an unbelievable season. If they manage to win a European trophy it’ll be a great season for them.
Perfect time to part ways
Owen is right and it will be a season that most Hammers fans will remember for the rest of their lifetimes.
However, that should not be an endorsement of Moyes staying on beyond the end of the season as he’s overstayed his welcome.

Had the Hammers not been in the latter stages of the Conference League, he would’ve been sacked by now as they were in serious relegation danger.
With Declan Rice set to leave, it’s going to be a summer of major changes and a rebuild is going to be required.
Moyes isn’t the man West Ham should task with for their rebuild and go for managers like Arne Slot who will be available in the summer.
He can go with his head held high if his last game in charge is a European trophy winner for the Hammers.
